Editorial Policy
Last updated: August 5, 2026
This page explains how we create, review, and maintain content on How Many Days Until Christmas. We believe in transparency about our process, especially on a site where people rely on accurate dates, deadlines, and factual information.
How We Research Content
Every article begins with primary-source research. For date and calendar information, we verify against official calendar systems (Gregorian calendar standards, federal holiday law under 5 U.S.C. § 6103). For historical content, we cite published academic or encyclopedic sources — never a blog citing another blog.
We cross-reference competitor content to ensure we haven't missed important topics, but we never copy, paraphrase, or rewrite another site's content. Every article is original.
How We Use AI
We use AI tools (including large language models) as research and drafting assistants. However:
- AI output is never published without human review. Every page is read, edited, and fact-checked by a real person before it goes live.
- AI-generated claims are verified against primary sources. We do not trust AI output at face value — factual statements are checked against authoritative references.
- We disclose this practice because we believe transparency about AI use builds trust rather than undermining it.
How We Fact-Check
Before any page is published or updated:
- Every factual claim is traced to a primary or authoritative secondary source.
- Dates and calendar information are verified against official calendar standards.
- Historical claims are checked against named sources (e.g., the Chronograph of 354, specific legislation).
- Planning information (shipping deadlines, school breaks) is marked as approximate until official sources confirm it, and updated when confirmed data becomes available.
If we cannot verify a claim, we do not publish it.
How We Update Content
We update content when there is genuine new information to add — not to manipulate freshness signals. Specifically:
- Year-specific pages (e.g., Christmas 2026) are reviewed and updated each January when the calendar rolls over.
- Planning information (shipping deadlines, store hours) is updated when carriers and retailers publish their official schedules, typically in October–November.
- Evergreen content (history, traditions) is reviewed on a 6–12 month cycle and updated only when new information warrants it.
- We never change the "last updated" date without making a substantive content change. Date-only freshness bumps are misleading and we don't do them.
